F1 star David Coulthard joins 75MM bill with Mercedes demonstration
The 45-year-old Scot, who won 13 Grands Prix for Williams and McLaren between 1995 and 2003 and finished runner-up in the 2001 Drivers’ World Championship, is returning to the Goodwood Motor Circuit to demonstrate a beautiful 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL 714 during a demonstration for the event’s Official Timing Partner IWC Schaffhausen on Saturday.
Coulthard will lap the 2.4-mile Motor Circuit at midday on the opening day in what has now become a tradition at Members’ Meetings since they were revived in 2014.
Synonymous with Mercedes-Benz during his career thanks to nine seasons at the wheel of McLaren-Mercedes F1 machinery, Coulthard is relishing the opportunity to sample the Gullwing beauty in such salubrious surroundings.
Coulthard made his Goodwood racing debut in the Revival last September, taking a 1958 Austin A35 to 22nd place in the first heat of the St Mary’s Trophy tin-top thrash.
Other race aces confirmed for the 75th Members’ Meeting include Coulthard’s former F1 rival Gerhard Berger, Le Mans winners David Brabham, Tom Kristensen, Jochen Mass, Emanuele Pirro and Darren Turner, World Touring Car Champions Rob Huff, Andy Priaulx and Roberto Ravaglia, British Touring Car aces Tim Harvey, Mat Jackson, Andrew Jordan, Matt Neal, Anthony Reid, Gordon Shedden and Colin Turkington, veteran tin-top and sportscar hero Steve Soper and World Rally Championship legend Stig Blomqvist.
