Remember the time when the very highest echelon of endurance racing was for cars that bore more than a passing resemblance to road cars?

Video: Monstrous GT1 music at 75MM
At the 75th Members' Meeting, we celebrated GT1 cars of the 1990s. These were cars that, initially at least, were road cars with added slicks and spoilers. Think of the McLaren F1's transition from road car to GTR spec Le Mans winner, and you'll know what we mean. As time went on, the cars became closer to racers than road cars, but even so, a number of cars in our 75MM line-up have been retrospectively registered for road use.
From McLaren to Porsche to Mercedes-Benz to Lotus, each is an elongated, lowered and exaggerated version of their road-going cousins. And they look all the better for it; relatable, yet exotic all at the same time.
As this video from HistoricRacingHD shows, the high-speed demonstration was just that; not a parade, but a full-throttle, flame-spitting illustration of what these cars are capable of. Relive the moment with the video above.
