Mercedes‑AMG Petronas F1 car to compete in mega AMG 'shoot‑out' at Goodwood

We are thrilled to reveal the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team will bring an F1 car to compete in a handicap-start Circuit shoot-out on the Saturday of the 73^rd Members’ Meeting here at Goodwood. It’s the first time a modern F1 car will be driven in anger at the Goodwood circuit in a generation, and the spine-tingling sound and spectacle of such a machine at full pelt is certain to be one of the highlights of the weekend. Tickets for the event are still available in limited quantities (to both GRRC Members and like-minded motorsport enthusiasts) but are selling fast, so we recommend that you buy yours now!

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 machine will go head to head on the circuit with an historic AMG racing car and the new Mercedes-AMG GT road car in a special track moment presented in association with our timing partners, luxury Swiss watch company IWC. We’ll have more details of this epic event to share with you here on Goodwood Road & Racing next week but, in keeping with the tradition of original Members’ Meeting races, the competition will feature a handicap start to ensure a level playing field.

Following the success of last year’s Members’ Meeting, tickets have been selling very quickly and we expect the last remaining Saturday tickets to be sold out around a week prior to the event. So if you would like to join us for what’s set to be a weekend of superb racing and tremendous fun and have yet to book your tickets, now’s the last time to do so to avoid disappointment. And if you are visiting on Saturday, please do stay for the evening’s festivities – it promises to be a party to remember!

The thrilling F1/AMG handicap will be in addition to three exciting, high-speed demonstrations where unlike last year the star machines – which include mid-70s ‘high airbox’ F1 cars, Group C Le Mans racers and McLaren’s mighty F1 GTR – will not be running behind a pace car. That means the drivers will have free rein to exercise their historic charges to the full.

We are especially looking forward to seeing Jean-Pierre Jarier back in action in the iconic ‘high airbox’ Shadow DN5 F1 car he campaigned in 1975.

We haven’t even mentioned the racing yet. From 1980s Ford Capris and 1920s Bugatti Type 35Bs to 1960s Jaguar E-types and 1950s Maserati 250Fs, we’ve cherry-picked the absolute cream of historic racing machinery for your enjoyment.
