Our friend Ulfert Janssen has been in touch again to draw our attention to some rather tasty artwork. Remember Ulfert? He’s the man behind Gannet Design which produced these stunning images of some classic motorcycles.
The man who’s work we’re looking at today is Barcelona-based Marc Carreras of www.remove-before.com. Like so many designers, he’s served his time working in the mainstream car industry, in his case for BMW and Nissan. However, in Marc’s own words classics ‘transmit so much more than current models. I really love the shapes and the detailed work on the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s cars. I took some of my favourites and tried to represent them as simply as possible, to magnify the details in them.’
Looking here at the fresh and crisp way he represents some of his favourite cars it’s a hard point to argue with. There’s a good range of subject matter, too, from classic Porsches to rallying Lancias, BMWs, American muscle, Group B rally machines and more. Marc originally intended to pen some classic motorbikes as well as trains and all sorts of transport, although as he says: ‘once I started with cars it was difficult to change the subject! I’ll definitely get round to it though… ‘
‘Why Remove Before?’ you may well ask. According to Marc he always liked the ‘Remove Before Flight’ tags which you sometimes see placed in the speed sensors and certain intakes on aircraft to prevent the ingress of foreign objects. ‘It gives a nice retro touch’ Marc explains. ‘Since I wanted to represent many kinds of vehicles, I thought I could use the idea but with “flight” removed, so that it would be useful for any kind of vehicle.’
As long as he keeps churning out images of this standard, we don’t mind if he sticks to cars just a little while longer. Hit this link for a full gallery of his work.
