Martin Stretton’s opening laps showed that his sub 2-litre Elva 7S wasn’t going to de daunted by the likes of Chris Goodwin in the 5700cc McLaren M1B. And if it had been a wet track it’s likely that he would have prevailed. As it turned out, the Dodd duo of James and Graeme in the Ginetta G16 that tools the lead with Chris hard chasing behind. Despite a 20-year absence from racing at Thruxton, he harried the Dodds and was only 2.7sec short when the flag fell. Third spot went down to the final lap with a pair of tussling Chevron B8s, who at one point passed either side of another car through Club, with Phillip Nelson taking the place honours.
