BTCC champions to lead Silverstone Classic line‑up

Tim Harvey, Matt Neal, Gordon Shedden, and Colin Turkington all confirmed …

Despite preparations already being underway for another epic Goodwood Revival meeting on the 12th-14th September, our heads have been temporarily turned by the advent on the 25th-27th July of the Silverstone Classic.

With no fewer than 1,113 race entries last year and 90,000 spectators, it’s a joyous spectacle of historic racing, and looking at a few of the entries listed for this year’s event that looks likely to remain the case.

Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden will be swapping their current BTCC Hondas for a Lotus Cortina which they’ll share in the two-driver Under 2-Litre Touring Car race, whilst current championship leader Turkington will be swapping his BMW 125i M-Sport for a mighty Ford Galaxie in the Mustang Celebration Trophy, and a BMW 3.0 CSL ‘Batmobile’ in the two Super Touring Trophy races. Turkington is in fact extra-lucky; not only is he driving two contrasting legendary cars, but the Silverstone Classic will also be his honeymoon! The soon-to-be Mrs Turkington is obviously a very understanding lady …

Meanwhile, former BTCC champion and all-round crowd-pleaser Tim Harvey will be part of a whopping 58 car grid for the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car race in a Ford GT40. He says of the current BTCC trio who will be making their Silverstone Classic ‘They will all really enjoy the truly epic experience and I’m sure they will get just as addicted as I now am. I just hope they don’t roll up their sleeves too far and use current BTCC driving tactics!
