We wanted to do something with this car at FoS, but decided to film the 917 16-cylinder instead. Luckily for us this Le Mans winning 911 GT1 is at Silverstone this weekend for the Classic, and so is Porsche Museum Director Klaus Bischoff who kindly rolled it out into the paddock for our ace snapper Dom Romney to photograph.
‘It was retired after it won Le Mans in 1998’ he tells us, ‘and now we take it all over the world to do demonstrations at events like Goodwood and Silverstone. It’s a very popular car!’
‘Popular’ is something of an understatement. When they rolled the car out for us to photograph everyone with a camera made a bee-line towards it.
‘Pebble Beach is next’ Klaus reveals. Who knows, maybe GRR will see it there as well?
