GRR at the Oldtimer GP
We’re freshly back from the Oldtimer GP at the Nürburgring. The ‘Oldtimer’ name may conjure a certain image, but it’s almost certainly the wrong one… what you need to picture is flame-spitting BMW M1s, wide-arched Group 5 Ford Capris and iconic JPS liveried Lotus F1 cars. Actually, that’s just part of it; there are also pre-war racers, Formula Juniors and a cross-section of historic GT cars that will be familiar to Goodwood Revival visitors.
Historic racing fan? Then step this way for the latest Revival news…
Most of the action takes place on the GP circuit. With its big gradient changes, there are plenty of vantage points for excellent viewing – even if some of the seating is rather a long way from the track itself. But there is also some action on the full-length Nordschleife. If you were there on the Friday, you were in for a treat: the Historic Marathon saw the likes of Cobra, E-types and Mustangs take to the full-size track in very mixed weather conditions. Difficult for the drivers but a great spectacle.
We were there with ace photographer Jochen Van Cauwenberge of Frozenspeed to capture the event.
