On 30 September 1946, Formula One and World Sports Car driver Jochen Mass was born in Dorfen, Germany. He competed in F1 during one of its most dangerous eras, moved into sports car racing, and notable successes include wins at both the Le Mans and Spa 24-hour races.
Today, he is prominent historic racer and a Goodwood Revival and Festival of Speed stalwart. At this month’s Revival, he took place in no fewer than four races, including the Shelby Cup and the St Mary’s Trophy (in the latter, manhandling all 17ft of the wonderfully unsuitable Studebaker Golden Hawk around the circuit).
Jochen is also one of the house captains at the newly re-established Goodwood Members’ Meeting.
Happy Birthday Jochen!
