When we looked at the ex-Ayrton Senna kart which Bonhams sold yesterday in Paris, we thought it looked decent value, even with an upper estimate of £22,000.
At the magnificent Grand Palais in Paris, Bonhams sold it for £43,355 – almost double its estimate. The figure is all the more impressive given that the great Brazilian didn’t own the kart, raced it just the once (at the 1981 Karting World Championship) and didn’t actually win with it!
Mind you, as you’d expect Bonhams drew a large crowd of keen enthusiasts to central Paris, where the kart starred alongside the likes of a Ferrari FXX, Ferrari F40, an Alfa Romeo 6C and even a Harley-Davidson once owned by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI!
