As you’ll see from the video, this car was attracting a fair bit of attention at the GRRC Spring Sprint – even the flies were drawn to the bright paintwork of this BMW CSL Batmobile ‘art car’. The sizeable DCOE 50 carburetors punctuating the 3.0-litre straight six were also regularly commented on.
Sam Thomas Racing has looked after the car for the last two years and achieved notable 2nd and 3rd placings at the 2014 Silverstone Classic in the hands of Sam Hancock and Colin Turkington. The team brought the CSL to the Spring Sprint for its first shakedown of the year. The aim is to once again race at Silverstone, before heading to Zanvoort and the Algarve later in the year.
Having competed in sprints and hillclimb events in period as a CSL, it was only converted into its current Batmobile spec in the early 2000’s.
