Do ‘proper’ BMWs exist anymore? Anyone who defines them as an atmospheric 6-cylinder sat up front in a compact, boxy, lightweight sports saloon would probably consider BMW’s current (and mostly excellent) range of cars rather short on supply.

Can ‘proper’ BMW’s exist anymore? Probably not. Cars have moved on a long way over the past 20-30 years, so there’s little to do but celebrate what has gone, rather than lament their passing. Enter GRR track tester and 2013 BTCC Champion, Andrew Jordan, and the stunning 1982 BMW 528i Group A car he’s piloting in the video above. Thrummy six-pot? Check. Low, squat, compact, boxy looks? Check. No need for a commentary, we think, this thing speaks for itself. Come to think of it, perhaps the most ‘proper’ of ‘proper’ BMWs were found only at race tracks, 19 hours into a 24-hour race...
