Colin McRae is a household name among motorsport fans. Over his career, the legendary Scottish rally ace took 477 stage wins, 25 rallies and one championship – in 1995 becoming the first Scottish person and the youngest driver to win the World Rally Championship.
Video: McRae flat‑out in testing
Suffice to say, he’s a pretty talented driver, especially when things get a little… slidey. And this recently resurfaced footage of him testing ahead of the 2001 Monte Carlo Rally is testament to that. Watch as McRae and French team mate Francois Delecour put their Ford M-Sport Focus RS WRC through its paces ahead of Monaco’s notoriously slippery and snowy mountain rally. Paying no heed to the laws of gravity, nor the road’s precarious boundaries, the pair blat up the mountain at tremendous speeds, the battered car’s tyres screeching and the engine spitting and popping in accord. What a great way to start the week…
