If you watch any video today make it this. We all love an onboard video, but we rarely get the pleasure of a rear-facing camera. It’s usually the case that all the action happens out the front windscreen, but not in this case. This rear-mounted camera has managed to capture one of the most exciting battles you’re likely to see accompanied by an incredible soundtrack. The destination is the famous Watkins Glen circuit at the Finger Lakes Invitational, and the battle is between two Porsche 911 RSRs.
Video: Hear a classic 911 RSR scream round Watkins Glen
The 911 RSR racing world is a competitive one and this video captures a head to head with perhaps two of the best 911 RSR drivers out there – Eric Lux and Todd Treffert. The camera is mounted to Lux’s car as Treffert is in hot pursuit as they dice through a field of iconic cars. They only have their minds fixed on each other as they pass a BMW 3.0 CSL Batmobile, Porsche 914 and a whole host of 911s.
It is mesmerizing to watch Treffert’s attempts to pass whilst negotiating the traffic, but the main reason for us having rewatched it for a fifth time is the sound of that 3.0-litre flat-six. As it revs up to the higher end of the rev-range the noise can only be described as biblical. If there was ever a video to back the argument over which engine set up produces the best sound – it’s this.
