Certain cars and certain marques are important in the history of Goodwood. Lancia of course in the beginning was integral, with the Lancia Owner’s Club first using our well-worn Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard Hill for competition. An integral part of Freddie March’s racing history however, was the MG C-type, with which he and his team won the Brooklands Double 12.
Video: This MG C‑type brought motorsport to Goodwood
Incredibly, one of his cars has returned to Goodwood, more than 90 years on from Freddie’s MG racing days. This was one of the three Montlhery Midgets that he’d bought, the first out of the 11 made. Delivered straight to the Double 12, Freddie won in one of them, while this car came fourth, with the other coming fifth, delivering that all-important driver and team win first time out. What an incredible piece of Goodwood’s distant history to have in our presence.
