The Dallara 192 wasn’t even a very good car. It was raced by JJ Lehto and Pierluigi Martini, and scored two points in the hands of the latter, but its crowning feature was of course that spectacular Ferrari V12, which didn’t fair much better in the back of the Ferrari car to be fair. But let’s not get bogged down with performance and just focus on what really matters… that sound.
Even as it starts up it sings a song unlike anything else. It’s a special kind of harmony as the guttural rumble is complimented by a high-pitched whine. But it just gets so much better as the revs start to build. Honestly, we need to find a way to make engines like this relevant again. Lamborghini has given us a new hybrid V12 in the Revuelto, maybe the next era of F1 can follow suit?
