This weekend feels like it’s going to ring in the summer in a literal solar blaze of glory and summer time, which means our minds are turning to hillclimbing and the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. So in the run up to the event, in between running around like headless chickens trying to put it all together, we watch videos like this to really get in the zone.
Video: Witness this absolutely mind‑blowing hillclimb run
Jump on board with us, and driver Christian Merli as he pilots his insane Osella Pa2000 Evo up the Trento Bondone hill in 2014. The way he attacks this ribbon of tarmac draped across Italian mountainside reminds us, there is a difference between us and them. Them being racing drivers, motor vehicle pilots with such practice and experience that being on the absolute edge in a car is the stuff of fast-twitch muscle reflexes rather than conscious effort. It’s procedural. It’s easy to understand while watching this that drivers often don’t even remember the experience, such is the subconscious nature of the art.
