The Vintage Sports-Car Club is out in force at Goodwood today for its annual Autumn Sprint – and the turnout is incredible. Everything from Austin Seven based specials to thundering aero-engined monsters are on track for timed sprints, creating a mini-Revival atmosphere that’s utterly intoxicating.
Entries are limited to 102 cars to ensure that everyone gets a paddock shelter, and it seems like being close to a sell-out – it’s packed out there. Not that a shelter is necessary; unlike last year’s downpour, all that’s falling today is golden Autumn leaves.
What’s more, as well as lots of incredible competition machinery, there are also plenty of road-going classics in the paddocks too. How about an incredible Delage, or the woody-bodied Bentley that appeared in The King’s Speech? Entry is free for spectators, and they’re treated to a brilliant spectacle. Where else will you see vintage cars competing on track and Spitfires flying overhead?
We tried trimming the gallery above down to a more manageable number of photographs, but in the end wanted to share them all…
