Audi’s R8 swept to victory at the 24 Hours of Spa, in a nail-biting finish that reinforces the brand’s present dominance in the world of endurance racing. That’s three 24 hour race wins this year, with Le Mans and Nurburgring victories already under Audi’s belt – a repeat of a similar achievement in 2012.
Belgian Audi Club Team WRT took the chequered flag at Spa, having qualified on pole and led for the first two hours before a series of accidents brought the safety car out several times and shuffled the pack. A fierce battle with the Marc VDS BMW team Z4 ensued, with the WRT Audi ultimately crossing the line 7secs ahead. The 3rd car was another Audi R8, which crossed the line a lap down, as was the 4th car, but another lap behind.
