The Total 24 Hours of Spa featured a round of the Blancpain GT trophy this year, which meant a grid packed full of eye-catching sports racing cars from Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, Nissan and Porsche.
While the long slog of an endurance race is said to bring a level of unpredictability to motor racing, it does seem that some results are less predictable than others. Audi finishing with four R8s in the top 5 possibly won’t have surprised anyone given their current 24 hour form, but the ill luck that ended the race prematurely for five of the six starting McLaren 12Cs left the support team from Woking looking aghast at times.
Bentley too had a ‘gritty’ race, but managed to see both cars through to the end, while Mercedes and Ferrari (seemingly the bulk of the field) had mixed results too.
But that’s racing, and that’s why we love it… especially at the wonderfully evocative Spa-Francorchamps circuit when the sun is shining.
