It’s that time of year again where speed-freaks the world-over descend upon a small town called Wendover in Utah, determined to run their cars, trucks and bikes as fast as they can.
Bonneville Speed Week is almost upon us, and GRR is going to be there to try and give you an impression of this temple of speed, the incredible cars, and the characters happily possessed with acute cases of Salt Fever. You never know, we might even get to have a drive of something ourselves …
To celebrate we thought we’d take a look at some of the famous cars and drivers that have contributed particularly memorable chapters to the legend of Bonneville over the years, and first-up is Jeff Brock’s incredible ‘Bombshell Betty’ Buick Roadmaster. This car is as much of a work of art as it is a speed machine, and the fact that it still runs a version of the original Buick straight-eight engine scores Mr Brock huge cool points in our book.
Take a look at this great video clip of Jeff and the big Buick thundering across the salt. Cars the size of aircraft carriers with obsolete engines just aren’t supposed to do 165mph!
