Video – Van Gisbergen Smashes Bathurst Lap Record In McLaren GT3

Shane Van Gisbergen has to be considered as one of the brightest upcoming racing drivers in the world. Already a race winner in the V8 Supercars series in Australia and now a member of both McLaren‘s factory GT squad and Red Bull’s crack V8 team the young Kiwi seems to have the world at his feet.

This video shows exactly why he is so highly rated, as Van Gisbergen hurls a McLaren 650S GT3 round Bathurst‘s iconic Mount Panorama at unbelievable speed on his way to grabbing pole for last weekend’s Bathurst 12 Hours – smashing the circuit’s qualifying lap record in the process.

To see how good ‘Gizzy’ is you just have to watch how close he brings the mighty 650S to Bathurst’s terrifying walls and the almost unbelievable speed that he carries as the Tekno Autosport car descends from the top of the mountain in the second half of the lap.

When he punched the air after crossing the finish line the 26-year-old had completed the 3.861-mile (6.213 km) track in just 2m 01.286s.
