It is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting races of the year. With GT3 and GT4 cars wrestling for space on the 6.2km track, and a special invitational class for “cars deemed eligible by the organisers” that don’t quite fit into the GT3 and GT4 classes, there is always, always drama. What’s more, the scenery, altitude (the Mount Panorama circuit sits 862m above sea level), weather and time of day all combine to produce some gorgeous imagery. Many race tracks are not beautiful, but Mount Panorama certainly is.
As regular Goodwood columnist Andrew Frankel said after his visit to the 2019 Bathurst 12 Hour: “If you only ever go to one motor race outside the UK, don’t go to Le Mans. Don’t go to the Monaco Grand Prix, and don’t go to the Indy 500. Instead get on a plane for a flight that will seem at times like it will never end, then once you’ve arrived in Sydney Australia, rent a car and drive three hours west to Bathurst.”
The racing kicks off at 5:45am Australian time, or 6:45pm UK time.
