Shock news landing in the inbox this morning; the next instalment of the Gymkhana video series won’t be filmed with Ken Block behind the wheel. Instead Block’s former Rally America team mate Travis Pastrana will be stomping on the loud pedal.
Is Ken Block retiring?
There’s not much more information to be had about the 11th Gymkhana, the location and date are still under wraps but Pastrana will be driving a Subaru rather than one of the Hoonigan crew’s creations. Pastrana previously appeared in Gymkhana 5 riding a dirt and then again in the most recent episode, briefly taking the wheel of the Hoonitruck. I believe that is what Hollywood calls foreshadowing.
Of course the press release tells us that Block has no intention of giving up the seat permanently but then they always claim that, don’t they? We did recently see him take on the role of instructor to the next generation of Hoonigan.
Actually we are sure that he will be sliding through some city streets somewhere before too long. Who knows, perhaps this is an elaborate double bluff and Gymkhana 11 will feature both drivers in a drift duel? Hopefully both will also be hooning up the Goodwood Hill in the future.
