How to make a fortune with a rare, classic Ferrari ...

News reached the GRR desk this morning of a story in the Los Angeles Times which we just had to share. If you’ve ever fancied getting involved in the often-turbulent world of exotic classic cars and making a fortune in the process then you really should give it a read.

In brief, a pair of college teachers acquired a 1954 Ferrari 375MM for $1,100 in 1968, but it had been wrecked and lots of parts were missing. Over the next 38 years they scavenged for parts (only 12 of the original 14 cars remained) and dealt in Ferraris and other exotics to help pay for the venture, including the full restoration of a 1957 Testa Rossa. But they always held onto the 375MM and had a clear goal in mind. Then, one day, they were faced with the opportunity to achieve it …

It is a wonderful story, which you should read in full here. You’ll never look at a smashed-up 14-year-old racing car in the same way again.
