No sooner did we see Didier Denat’s 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera RS turn up at the recent Robert Barrie Porsche track day than we gathered our ‘Firing on…’ gear and hot-footed it across the paddock to introduce ourselves and beg a few minutes of unmistakable Porsche flat six rumble.
We loved the way it sat there hunkered down, ready for action, but at the same time not screaming its presence despite being a very rare race-bred special. We also loved its stance and the gorgeous sound its Martin SCART exhaust system produced.
‘I’ve only had it six months,’ beamed Didier. ‘It’s my first real outing with it, too.’ Suffice to say he enjoyed his time on-track. We later asked if he owned any other Porsches. Again, he beamed, ‘yes, a 1974 3.0 RSR and a 993 RS.’
Before leaving we begged him to let us do a ‘Firing on …’ with the RSR. He agreed. Watch this space!
