Well what a year it has been! We’ve seen the Members’ Meeting successfully re-launched after 47 years, the most successful FoS ever, another packed Revival meeting and of course the launch of Goodwood Road & Racing – scroll down for our highlights video.
It’s hard to believe that it was only April when we launched the ‘site, and we’ve enjoyed more four and two-wheeled highlights than we’d have dreamt of when we started. The first major event was of course the 72nd Members’ Meeting (highlights here) which saw turbo F1 cars, Group 1 Touring Cars and Group B rally cars join more traditional ‘Goodwood’ machinery in a sensational race meeting.
It felt like we’d barely had time to recover from 72MM before the big one was upon us… the 2014 Festival of Speed. As ever, expectations were high and as ever FoS delivered. To pick out highlights from such an incredible event is virtually impossible, but we won’t let that stop us from pointing you towards the amazing Hillclimb Shootout video.
As with 72MM, the tarmac at Goodwood House had barely cooled from FoS when the Goodwood circuit was being prepared for the Revival. Participants (and for that matter spectators) descended upon Goodwood from all four corners for the world’s premier historic race meeting. Few, if any, will have been disappointed with the action delivered by a wealth of top drivers piloting some of the rarest and most desirable racing cars ever known. Oh and unlike 2013 the weather stayed fine, too! Highlights of all the races here…
But the main Goodwood events are only part of our 2015 story. GRR was honoured with the first UK drive of the BMW i8 during FoS and the world’s first drive of the 273mph Koenisgegg One:1. More recently the inimitable Chris Harris has joined the GRR team and entertained us no-end with his track-tests of the Mercedes AMG GT and of course the infamous Ferrari 458 Speciale versus Porsche 911 GT3 comparison.
We also went to the Monaco Historique Grand Prix where our ace photographer Dom Romney took this incredible set of photos, the Le Mans Classic where we drove all the way there in the one-off Festival of Speed Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupé (…and then stayed on a campsite!), drove on the Mille Miglia in a Jaguar F-Type R coupé and attended the launch of the astonishing McLaren 650S.
2014 has also been the year where we introduced the Hillclimb Roadtest, in which we invite one of our go-to GRRC House Captains Anthony Reid or Nic Minassian to test road cars up the famous Goodwood Hillclimb course. Videos include the McLaren 650S, Jaguar F-Type R coupé versus Porsche 911 Turbo, Alfa Romeo 4C and of course the big three-way test between the new Corvette, Aston Martin V12 Vantage S and the Jaguar F-Type V8S.
Then there have been our many ‘Firing on…’ videos, like this wonderful 1958 Lister Knobbly Chevrolet, regular columns from Andrew Frankel, Henry Hope-Frost and Edward Legge and so much more that we can’t believe we’ve crammed it all in to one year.
We’ve not done too badly in the aviation stakes, either, keeping up to date with the Boultbee Spitfires which also occupy Hangar 8 here at the Goodwood circuit. We’ve advised you on what to look out for if you’re thinking of buying one, how to fly one, and even given you the chance of a free flight in one!
Thank you all so much for your continuing support. Just wait to see what we have in store for 2015.
Meanwhile, from everyone here at Goodwood Road & Racing, we wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
