How many uses can you think for a piston from an Aston Martin DB 2/4 Mk2 saloon? Aston Martin’s Works division thought there was nothing better for it than for them to be melted down and turned into the rotary switches for a special edition Volante.
Just a year after celebrating its centenary with the CC100, Aston Martin is about to celebrate its sixtieth anniversary at its Newport Pagnell facility. As you’d expect, this lesser milestone will be marked with a slightly more modest gesture than a one-off concept car, but it will produce anniversary cars that people can actually buy.
Six special edition Vanquishes will be built, one for each decade. While they are primarily paint-and-trim upgrades (each being unique, but all featuring yellow side strakes and wheels), they will feature switchgear made from a piston taken from a different Aston Martin chosen from each decade.
