Aston factory expands, still not big enough to house all aspiring apprentices

Gaydon_ManufacturingAston Martin is gearing up to increase production, a move that could further court the favour (and takeover ambitions?) of technical partner AMG. A £20m building programme will see the Gaydon factory grow by 10,000 square metres, the space being dedicated to a new chassis and pilot build facility, offices and storage space. The work is due to be complete by next year.

Meanwhile, 12 new apprenticeship places have just become available, for which Aston has received over 500 applications. In addition, 14 graduates will be recruited this year.

Last year, Aston marked its centenary. This year’s announcement of its biggest-ever investment programme – totalling £500m – is arguably greater cause for celebration. Unless you’re one of those 488-plus apprentice applicants who will have to be turned down…
