Video: the 911 V8 that could have been...

Can you imagine Porsche building a 911 with anything other than a rear-mounted flat-six engine? So entrenched is the 911’s peculiar layout in the automotive psyche that it’s now practically set in stone. But it hasn’t always been that way. It’s well known that, in the 1970s, Porsche considered replacing the 911 with the front-engined, V8-powered 928. Less well known is Porsche’s experiment with the 965, a 911 shape with a V8 engine.
