Range Rover has just announced an 8min 14sec lap of the Nürburgring with the new Sport SVR, from which we infer this probably isn’t the JLR model you’ll want to use for taking sheep to the vet. But if your kids need to ride to school in a 4×4 with bragging rights, the ‘fastest SUV ‘Ring time’ should go down a treat in the playground!
As should the noise the SVR makes. It has the same 542bhp engine that we’ve already enjoyed in the F-type R, and Land Rover’s use of the hashtag #SoundofSVR suggests they know what we all really want from our premium ‘off-roaders’ – even if this one does retain the 850mm wading depth of the other Range Rover Sports.
If you were at FoS, you’ve probably already seen (and heard) the SVR, as a camouflaged development car made its dynamic debut here at Goodwood. It’s being built by JLR’s SVO division (the same outfit that’s bringing us the lightweight E-type continuation and Project 7) and the first cars will be in showrooms next year.
Has Land Rover created the ultimate track day tow car? Perhaps we should be looking out for track-based twin tests with the new Porsche Macan Turbo which we also drove on track…
