Mercedes-Benz tuner Brabus is using this week’s Dubai International Motor Show to debut its staggering Rocket 900, a sumptuous four-door saloon, based on the Mercedes S65 AMG, but offering supercar power and performance on the, already rapid.
Brabus describes its new Rocket 900 ‘Desert Gold’ edition as homage to the Orient.’ This exclusive high-performance luxury liner is immediately recognisable, not only due to its extraordinary ‘Desert Gold’ paintwork, but also its aerodynamically-enhanced ‘naked’ carbon components and shiny black Brabus Monoblock F ‘Platinum Edition’ 21-inch alloy wheels with gold pin striping.
The Rocket 900’s leather plush is upholstered in a combination of gold and black leather, with gold-coloured seams in a quilting pattern created specifically for this special model. In addition, some 300 other interior parts are also painted in the same shade to match the car’s distinctive Desert Gold exterior coachwork.
The power plant for this luxury saloon is the Brabus Rocket 900 6.3 V12 twin-turbo, producing 900PS (887bhp) with a peak torque of 1,500Nm (1,106lb ft). This V12 propels the Rocket 900 from rest to 200km/h (124 mph) in just 9.1 seconds, with a top speed in excess of 350km/h (217mph). Not bad for a big, heavy four-door luxury saloon car!
This immense power is channeled to the rear wheels by a seven-speed automatic transmission adapted to the tremendous power output and a high-performance limited-slip differential with a locking rate of 40 percent. The transmission can also be shifted manually with aluminum paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
