Mercedes-Benz seems to have taken some inspiration from Hollywood’s 1989 movie classic, ‘Honey I Shrunk The Kids’, and scaled down its recent S-Class Coupe to create the new C-Class Coupe. This is no bad thing, as the smaller and more affordable new C-Class Coupe has inherited the good looks, high beltline and sleek, frameless doors of its larger S-Class Coupe sibling.
Due to debut at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September, this new two-door C-Class derivative is set to enter UK Mercedes-Benz showrooms just in time for Christmas, so for those looking for a suitable Festive gift for their significant other, this stylish Coupe could be the ideal solution.
Longer, lighter and more efficient than its predecessor, with a slippery 0.26 Cd low-drag body and extensive use of aluminium, the new C-Class Coupe will initially be available with a range of Euro 6 compliant petrol and diesel-powered four cylinder engines, each equipped with an ECO start/stop function, improving the fuel economy of the new model by up to 27 percent over the outgoing coupe.
Engines will range from a 1.6-litre four-cylinder in the 156hp C 180, to the two-litre C 200 (184hp), C 250 (211hp) and C 300, with an output of 245hp. The two diesel options develop 170hp and 204hp, and feature the eco-friendly SCR technology (Selective Catalytic Reduction) for exhaust gas after-treatment.
As well as a bespoke luxury interior, the new C-Class Coupe will be equipped with a sophisticated level of safety equipment as standard, based on Mercedes-Benz’s proven Intelligent Drive concept. This will include advanced technology such as Collision Prevention Assist Plus, which features an acoustic warning system to alert the driver at speeds over 4mph to help avoid collisions by boosting braking. If the collision risk persists and the driver fails to respond, the system is able to carry out autonomous braking at speeds of up to 120mph. Attention Assist is also standard, warning the driver of drowsiness.
Prices will be announced closer to this new C-Class joining the growing selection of Mercedes-Benz coupe models available to British buyers later this year, including the recent S-Class and the new CLA and GLE Coupes.
