Possibly the biggest star of the Frankfurt Motor Show. We’ve been tantalised with spy shots and teasers for what seems like ages; finally we get to stroke the £160,200 colossus that is ‘the fastest, most powerful, most luxurious SUV in the world’, according to Bentley, and who are we to disagree?
With an all-new W12 powertrain developing 600bhp and 663lb ft of torque (0-60mph in four seconds), an eight-speed automatic gearbox and strengthened four-wheel drive, the Bentayga’s performance should be something to behold, as should its interior – Bentley says ‘Paint, leather, veneer and lifestyle options are unlimited and tailored to the individual’.
There are 17 exterior paint options and 15 carpet options alone. What’s a lifestyle option, I hear you ask. Customers with an interest in watersports, for example, might choose the Wet Gear Stowage kit. Neat.
The Chinese and American markets will be thrilled and, despite cynicism in certain British quarters, believe us when we say the order books will be chokka on British shores too. This model will take Bentley into the super-luxury off-roading class and is a great reminder of the adaptability, craftsmanship and longevity inherent in Britain’s premium automotive marques.
