Last weekend’s annual Classic Motor Show, sponsored by Lancaster Insurance, saw more than 70,000 attendees converge on the NEC in Birmingham. Some 2,500 or so classic cars and motorcycles were on display- many being exhibited by the 270+ car and bike clubs present.

GRR Visits – 2016 Lancaster Insurance Classic Motorshow
Run for the 32nd consecutive year, the huge NEC Classic event had something for all tastes: from aged three-wheeled Reliants to Ayrton Senna’s Formula One Lotus.
Rare and notable cars at the event included no fewer than six examples of the stylish Michelotti-designed Triumph TR3-based Italia 2000 – a record gathering in the UK for these delightful Anglo-Italian coupes. A trio of mid-engined De Tomaso Mangustas, a row of diminutive Meadow Frisky microcars, and a mouth-watering collection of Can-Am racers also caught our attention.
Individual car highlights included an original and scarce-in-the-UK early Chevrolet Corvair, a white (not orange!) Bond Bug, the cut-away Austin 1100 Countryman estate built for display at the 1966 Earls Court Motor Show, an ex-Le Mans Porsche 924 Carrera GT, plus the remains of the one-off, seldom-seen 1947 Murad; an advanced post-war prototype saloon made in Aylesbury. These, plus many others, are illustrated above.
The 2017 Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show took place from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th November.
