Choosing a new McLaren might bit of a no-brainer these days, but there are still plenty of difficult choices to be made once you have decided to spend your money at Woking. And we don’t mean just picking the right body colour.

McLaren unveils stylish 570S design editions
What about the colour of the brake callipers, design of wheels, style of exhaust finisher, seat leather, upper and lower facia materials… even the colour of the seat stitching has to be decided.
Online car configurators – and McLaren’s is one of the best – go so far, but now expert help is at hand for the terminally indecisive with five special Design Edition versions of the 570S Sports Series model. The company says each element of colour and trim has been chosen to work in perfect harmony by the company’s own designers. It’s a bit like the designers telling us what their own ideal 570S would be.
You can have a red, black, grey, orange or white one. Design Edition 1, for example (shown in the pictures), combines Vermillion Red body with five-spoke diamond-cut finish wheels, Stealth exhaust and red brake callipers. Inside, it gets black Alcantara and red Nappa leather seats, black Nappa leather upper facia, and red Nappa leather lower facia. And the seat stitching? That’s in a contrasting slate grey. You also get a black and red two-tone steering wheel. The result is pretty stunning we reckon.
McLaren says the Design Edition option – which costs £8,500 on top of the 570S’s base price of £143,250 – is the canny way to spec-up your car since ordering the items separately would cost more. Orders are now being taken for first deliveries in 2017.
