The first pure electric McLaren P1 has had its first test outing – on the Goodwood Motor Circuit. A mystery new test driver, just known as Leo, was entrusted with handling the Volcano Yellow machine on Goodwood’s fast corners. In scenes reminiscent of the circuit’s F1 testing years after 1966, a full McLaren pit crew was in attendance to set up the car.

The performance of the car is said to be startling, with zero to maximum speed achieved in just two seconds.
It was the first time the new electric McLaren has been driven in anger, and the first time we have had a chance to see the car close up. A key model in McLaren’s TRACK 22 business plan to develop a pure EV as an Ultimate Series model, the special P1 impressed for its open-top body and central driving position, just like the new three-seat BP23 hyper GT will have.
In other news from Woking, McLaren retailers are offering a new child’s ride-on electric P1. It costs £375 and is (probably) what every child wants for Christmas this year…
