Mercedes‑Benz C63 AMG Cabriolet Revealed

Here follows the completion of the C63 AMG quartet! Thats right, the open air version of the recently introduced handsome performance two door is upon us. 

The New York Auto Show will see Mercedes-Benz introduce the V8 twin-turbocharged C63 AMG Cabriolet just in time for summer. On the outside much of the existing cars styling carries over to the soft top with the bruiser facia from the saloon and sleek horizontal taillights and large trapezoidal exhaust from the Coupé transferring across. 

It’s much the same on the inside as well with the attractive interior design returning for some exposure to the sun. The steroidal AMG benefits from the swathes of carbon trim as per its four door and Coupé siblings, too. A fabric roof continues to buck the folding metal CC trend of recent years years with the rival M4 continuing to make use of the tin-top, and affords the C63 Cabriolet a certain old school elegance. 

Under the bonnet you will find the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine in both 476bhp 479 lb ft C63 and 510bhp 516 lb ft C63S specifications. Performance figures are as follows: 0-62mph in 4.2 and 4.1 seconds for the respective models with both reaching a limited top speed of 155mph.  

The obvious distinctive different in terms of the experience of the car will be the added exposure to that industrial gargle of the new turbocharged “hot V” engine, coming courtesy of the option to drop the top. 

The roof itself can be raised at speeds up to 30mph, although you have to be virtually still to initiate the process. Mercedes now obligatory AIRSCARF system reappears to shelter your neck and shoulders from the biting exterior gusts with the roof down, whilst also being joined by the new AIRCAP system which forms a hairstyle preserving barrier of air against the turbulence overhead. 

The car will debut in the metal at NYAS in the coming days.
