With carbon-fibre body kit, new wheels and tyres and fluorescent paint highlights as has long been Aston’s wont, the firm’s latest model is clearly inspired by its racer cousin. The Vantage GT8 delivers what its looks promise, weighing in at “up to” 100kg less than the regular V8 Vantage, gaining a new aero package, and enjoying an extra 10hp under the bonnet courtesy of a tweaked version of the familiar normally-aspirated 4.7-litre V8.
Aston says the chassis has been tuned for “track focused” ability and, confirms special projects chief David King, “takes the V8 Vantage to an entirely different level of agility and aggression. It’s a hugely exciting car honed to the keenest possible edge.”
The wide body, with distinctive cutaway front wheelarch like the race car, gets a range of carbon add-ons, including front splitter, bumpers, wheelarches, side sills and rear diffuser. For incurable Le Mans romantics, an optional Aero Pack adds front winglets and big rear spoiler. The paint job? Take your pick from China Grey and Blue, Stratus White and Green, or – as our pictures show – Stirling Green and Lime
