Techno Classica 2016: When Is An Opel Not An Opel
This particular 356 caught our eye not just because of its very authentic condition, but more by its unusual privatized registration plate, which reads ‘OPEL 1’.
If this plate was mounted on an Opel, fine, but on a Porsche? The retailer of the 356 believes that this example was original purchased by a senior member of the Adam Opel AG board in the early 1950s for personal use. At that time Opel had no sporting models in its range, with the large and ponderous Kaptian saloon being the German marque’s most prestigious offering, so you can see why the spritely Porsche would have appealed!
