Robert White, a GRRC member, died of cancer in 2015 aged 62. During his lifetime he amassed what Bonhams calls a “treasure trove of mechanical rarities” with lots included in the sale ranging from a 1959 AC Ace-Bristol roadster to a rare 35th anniversary George Daniels wristwatch, vintage Leica cameras to motoring mascots.
Robert White adored classic motorcycles and there are five in the sale, with the star being a circa 1929 Megola 640cc Touring Model (estimate £120-140,000). Other bikes are a pair of MV Agustas, a 500cc 3-cylinder Grand Prix recreation (£80-100,000) and a 4-cylinder GP recreation (£70-90,000), plus a 1974 Ducati 750SS (£60-70,000) and a 1951 Series C Vincent Black Shadow (£50-70,000).
On the car front, as well as the 1959 Bristol-engined AC Ace (£180-220,000), there is a second AC Ace, a 1958 roadster (£120-140,000). With an estimate of £200-250,000, highest priced lot promises to be a 1930 Bentley 4½-Litre Le Mans-style Tourer. There is also one of the superb Argentine-built Bugatti recreations in the sale, the Pur Sang “Type 51” (£90-110,000). Robert ordered the car, representing the Grand Prix Bugatti in ultimate 2.3-litre supercharged form, in 2013.
