One of the new-model treats in store on the Mercedes-Benz display at the upcoming Paris Motor Show this year will be this car: the AMG 43 4Matic coupe. If that doesn’t mean much think of it as a coming together of AMG power and SUV ability with swoopy (ish) coupe styling. In today’s mix ’n match world of range-building, this one aims to tick all the most desirable boxes.

AMG gets its hands on Mercedes GLC Coupe for Paris
It might look faster than the GLC, but the coupe styling does not bring with it more power or performance. It gets the same twin turbo petrol V6, with 367hp and 384 lb ft. There’s a nine-speed automatic transmisson and rear-biased all-wheel drive system, plus adjustable-height air suspension if you really must take it into the rough. On the smooth it will get from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds which is the same as the higher-riding GLC 43.
The AMG upgrade blueprint is familiar now and the GLC 43 coupe sticks to it, with its high gloss black and chrome trims, body add-ons, upgraded running gear and more sporty and bespoke interior.
AMG model proliferation is in full swing now and this latest version takes the company a step closer to having a real AMG (rather than AMG Line) version of every model in the range – just the B-class, GLS and V-class van to go!
SUV “coupes” like the GLC 43 may not be everyone’s cup of tea but the newcomer has stolen a march on BMW, whose rival X4 is diesel only, and now more than ever has Porsche in its sights. The newest AMG is just one tenth slower to 62mph than the Macan Turbo, which at £62,500 is likely to remain the more expensive choice.
