Coachbuilding is a curious business when you think about. You take an often-revered motorcar and re-skin it in line with your vision. Aston Martins are conventionally beautiful cars and yet we still lose our minds with “want” levels every time Zagato gets hold of one.
Video: Is this Jaguar E‑type hearse drop‑dead gorgeous?
A popular basis for a spot of tasteful metalwork tailoring are Jaguar’s sportscars of the early to mid 20th century. We recently reported on a stunning XK120 – not an unattractive car to begin with – that had the storied mitts of Pininfarina on hand for a refit. This E-type, though, might just take the cake. It’s not beautiful like the 120 but it’s an eye-catcher. The silhouette teases our thing for shooting brakes but its intended cargo is, er, unconventional. It’s a hearse, specifically a replica of the E-type hearse made for, the cult classic flick, Harold and Maude.
