Anyone still in need of confirmation that Porsche 911 Turbo prices are still well on boost need only look to Paris – RM Sotheby’s just sold a 1995 Turbo Cabrio for… €300,000 over its pre-sale high estimate. Which was already a million euros…

€3M 1934 Alfa Tipo B leads a pack of Porsches + more at RM's Retromobile sale
Despite a spectacular 1934 Alfa Romeo Tipo B P3 leading the way at the Retromobile sale at €3.9 million, it was very much Porsches in the spotlight at the RM Sotheby’s Retromobile sale.
Third-highest price of the day at €1.96m went to the 1988 three-owner 959 Sport that headlined the first 13-car tranche of a spectacular Porsche-only collection put up for sale en bloc by a Swiss collector.
The 959 S, one of 29 Sport spec' cars and a much rarer beast than the 959 Komfort, was special in all kinds of ways with its original paint, three-owner history and star billing from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. Its pre-sale guide price was €1.5-2.0 million.
Also finding buyers were the 1964 Porsche 901 Cabriolet prototype by Karmann – one of just two pre-production 901s still in existence – which sold for €649,600, and that ’95 Turbo Cabrio which went to its new home in return for €1,344,000. The 901 was under its estimate… the Turbo, well over it.
Two other rarities from the Swiss Porsche collection proved that beating pre-sale estimates was no fluke. The one-of-17 964 3.6 Turbo S sold for €901,600 (against a high estimate of €750,000), and a delivery mileage 996 GT3 RS (with just 194km on the clock) sold for almost double its estimate, at €392,000.
In contrast, another Porsche that we raved about – the Can-Am Spyder prototype 917/10 which crossed the block with a pre-sale estimate of up to €5.5 million (about £4.6m) – failed to find a buyer on the day.
Overall, RM Sotheby’s says it was their most successful Paris auction, bringing in a total of €27.5 million in sales.
