Car reviewing used to be a little bit different; rather than slickly made short films presented on the internet it often featured people who had little knowledge of cars presenting incredibly in-depth and significantly dull overviews of cars – see Noel Edmonds and Top Gear.
Video: This clip of Jackie Stewart reviewing a Ford Scorpio is wonderfully strange
That even spreads to content created by car companies to promote their own products. An example of which we present here. This slightly mind-boggling video features three-time F1 champ Jackie Stewart and former television presenter Frank Bough both driving the Ford Scorpio, way back in 1988. Ostensibly it's set up as a journey of two friends to Scotland for a nice weekend together. But it doesn't take long for it to become a ramblingly weird experience.
Highlights include Jackie explaining how the car feels so small while obviously struggling to see over the steering wheel, a random police officer hurling the Scorpio through a series of cone-based tests and Jackie taking a Policemen out for a drive. All the while Bough, apparently unaware that his good friend has decided to take a detour to play with the police, obliviously meanders round Scotland before the pair meet up at Gleneagles hotel and Jackie pretends he owns it. There's even a whole bunch of completely silent videos of the Scorpio driving round. It's so weird it's actually marvellous.
