It’s the age-old trick, whipping a tablecloth from between table and china, without disturbing the diner. BMW has done it, Aprilia too, but Triumph was yet to tease us with a deft display of mechanical mastery. Until now, that is…
Video: Triumph tries the tablecloth trick
In a promotional video for the new Triumph Rocket 3 R, the British manufacturer has treated us to the oldest trick in the book, using the world’s most powerful production motorcycle to whip the cloth from a beautifully made up table.
Unfortunately, the Rocket’s brutal 221Nm of torque means it doesn’t go quite as smoothly as with the superbikes… In fact, it’s only the tableware that gets left behind, with the table and cloth both going for a ride behind the 2,500cc bike. Well, what did you expect from the highest torque production motorcycle?
“The tablecloth trick is such an iconic stunt in the motorcycle world so we decided if we wanted to recreate it we’d have to put our own Rocket spin on it,” said Devron Boulton, General Manager UK & Ireland. “The aim was to really demonstrate the muscular attitude of the bike we consider to be the King of the Jungle. That’s why rather than seeing the tablecloth delicately removed from the table we created our own bit of destruction for people to remember.”
