Porsche loves an options list, it’s just the truth. Each press car they spec has north of £10,000 of extra bits, dials and fancy features added on. But there’s also no denying that the cars they make are just better than most of the competition.

There is supposed to be a pathway into the Porsche ownership lifestyle. Start at the bottom with something from the 718 range, Cayman or Boxster, and eventually gravitate up toward a full-fat, six-cylinder 911.
But, since Porsches and cars in general are so expensive these days – a 911 will cost over £80,000 from base – does it hold true that the 718 is the affordable Porsche anymore? Is owning one an achievable goal to aim for or is a Porsche now just something that can be owned by those with a second home? We grabbed the bottom of the range Cayman to find out.
