The Hyundai N badge is quickly becoming synonymous with laugh-out-loud driving fun. It’s been a long, long time since we’ve been able to suggest there might actually be a genuine contender to the supremacy of the Ford Fiesta ST, but the i20N might just be that car. It’s pretty perfect timing, too, seeing as we’re not far off waving goodbye to the Fiesta.
Video: Hyundai i20N Review
With current trends piling increasingly insane amounts of power into hot hatches that are getting incredibly bloated and weighty, it’s incredibly refreshing to take a look at the i20N and see a lightweight and nimble supermini with a modest 204PS (150kW). The results are quite spectacular.
While it’s not alarmingly quick, that isn’t the intention. The balance is that the little Hyundai is just good old-fashioned fun. A press of the ‘N’ button on the steering wheel turns the whole experience into a circus. The pops and bangs from the exhaust are just perfectly daft, there’s genuinely entertaining rev matching, and so much more that makes this car a must-buy if you’re looking for a hot hatch for less than £30,000.
