It might be quite difficult to concoct a more enticing scenario than this: a track-ready Ferrari 488 with a heavily fettled twin-turbo V8, and an empty race track. Better still, the fast and flowing Circuit of the Americas in Texas.
Video: Throwing a Ferrari 488 GT Modificata around COTA
This isn’t just ‘any’ Ferrari 488 either. It’s a GT Modificata, incorporating technology from the GT3 and GTE models and putting out 700PS (515kW). The only option therefore is to strap on some brand-new tyres and see just how fast it will go. The answer is pretty fast, and we get to ride along with the perfect view of this quite excellent ribbon of tarmac.
While the sights are spectacular, the sounds are equally satisfying thanks to that glorious V8 roar and a thoroughly entertaining turbo whistle. It’s all very dramatic.
What’s perhaps more mind-bending is that, while this looks and feels pretty fast, we’re lapping at what is the best part of 30 seconds slower than a Formula 1 car, but that doesn’t make this effort any less impressive.
