BMW has made some pretty out there concept cars recently, ones you look at and take a moment to steady yourself before commenting. Not exactly the beautiful flowing lines of Gandini or Guigiaro anymore. But its back catalogue is full of some incredible machines.

We can accept the current slew of… interesting concept cars from BMW because they are exactly that: a concept. They don’t have to be made and in many cases they are designed to catch the eye while showcasing something quite important. That could be the next life saving safety technology or a brand new way of powering a car.
BMW’s archive showcases pretty much every possible kind of concept car. From the jaw-dropping beauty of the Mille Miglia Concept Coupe, or Italdesign’s wonderful Nazca, to cars that showcased the future, like the Z22.
All have their own place in BMW’s history and all deserve to be either loved or respected. So these eight we think should be remembered for a long time as cars that either helped shape BMW today, or really should have been made. Which is your favourite?
